15th Anniversary of Princess Diana's Death

keenanevans.files.wordpress.com/

I can't believe it's been 15 years.
I was at my aunt's house when I heard the news, and I didn't believe it.
Such sad news.
I wonder what the late-Princess would say about Will and Kate's marriage and of course, Harry's antics in Vegas.

Comedian Phyllis Diller Dies

USA Today

Legendary comedian Phyllis Diller died in her sleep Monday at her Brentwood home. She was 95 years old. Every news outlet's obit on the comedian is hilarious and entertaining. Here's one from the Associated Press:

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Phyllis Diller, the housewife turned humorist who aimed some of her sharpest barbs at herself, punctuating her jokes with her trademark cackle, died Monday morning in her Los Angeles home at age 95.
"She died peacefully in her sleep and with a smile on her face," her longtime manager, Milton Suchin, told The Associated Press.
Diller, who suffered a near-fatal heart attack in 1999, was found by her son, Perry Diller. The cause of her death has not been released.
She was a staple of nightclubs and television from the 1950s --when female comics were rare indeed -- until her retirement in 2002. Diller built her stand-up act around the persona of the corner-cutting housewife ("I bury a lot of my ironing in the backyard") with bizarre looks, a wardrobe to match (by "Omar of Omaha") and a husband named "Fang."
Wrote Time magazine in 1961: "Onstage comes something that, by its own description, looks like a sackful of doorknobs. With hair dyed by Alcoa, pipe-cleaner limbs and knees just missing one
another when the feet are wide apart, this is not Princess Volupine. It is Phyllis Diller, the poor man's Auntie Mame, only successful female among the New Wave comedians and one of the few women funny and tough enough to belt out a `standup' act of one-line gags."
She inspired a generation of female comics, including Joan Rivers, Ellen DeGeneres and Whoopi Goldberg, who remembered Diller on Twitter Monday.
Diller described herself as "one of those life-of-the-party types," in an interview with AP in 1965. "You'll find them in every bridge club, at every country club. People invited me to parties only because they knew I would supply some laughs. They still do."
She didn't get into comedy until she was nearly 40, after her first husband, Sherwood Diller, prodded her for two years to give up a successful career as an advertising and radio writer. Through it all, she was also a busy mother.
Her husband managed her career until the couple's 25-year marriage fell apart in the 1960s. Shortly after her divorce she married entertainer Warde Donovan, but they separated within months.
Through both marriages and other relationships, the foibles of"Fang" remained an integral part of her act. "Fang is permanent in the act, of course," she once said.
"Don't confuse him with my real husbands. They're temporary." She also appeared in movies, including "Boy, Did I Get a Wrong Number" and "Eight on the Lam" with Bob Hope.
In 1966-67, she was the star of an ABC sitcom about a society family trying to stave off bankruptcy, "The Pruitts of Southampton." Gypsy Rose Lee played a nosy neighbor. In 1968, she was host of a short-lived variety series, "The Beautiful Phyllis Diller Show."
But standup comedy was her first love, and when she broke into the business in 1956 it was a field she had largely to herself because female comics weren't widely accepted then.
Although she could be serious during interviews, sooner or later a joke would pop out, often as not followed by that outrageous "AH-HHAAAAAAAAAAAA-HA-HA-HA!" laugh.

Her looks were a frequent topic, and she did everything she could to accentuate them -- negatively. She wore outrageous fright wigs and deliberately shopped for stage shoes that made her legs look as skinny as possible.
She recovered from a 1999 heart attack with the help of a pacemaker, but finally retired in 2002, saying advancing age was making it too difficult for her to spend several weeks a year on the road.

After retiring from standup, Diller continued to take occasional small parts in movies and TV shows ("Family Guy") and pursued ainting as a serious hobby.
When she turned 90 in July 2007, she fractured a bone in her back and was forced to cancel a planned birthday appearance on "The Tonight Show With Jay Leno." But it didn't stop her from wisecracking: "I still take the pill `cause I don't want any more grandchildren."
Born Phyllis Driver in Lima, Ohio, she married Sherwood Diller right out of school (Bluffton College) and was a housewife for several years before getting outside work. She was working as an advertising writer for a radio station when a comedy turn at San Francisco's Purple Onion nightclub launched her toward stardom.
She credited the self-help book, "The Magic of Believing" by Claude M. Bristol, with giving her the courage to enter the business. For decades she would recommend it to aspiring entertainers, even buying it for them sometimes.

Diller is survived by her two children, four grandchildren and a great-granddaughter. Plans for services are pending.

Kim Kardashian Makes Cameo in Kanye's "Too Cold" Video

Once upon an April not too long ago, Kanye professed his love to Kim Kardashian in a Theraflu, Too Cold. Kim subtley denied that they were together, but as time went on we all knew better.
Fast forward to now, the video to  I Wish You Could/Too Cold starring Yeezy, Ricky Rozay, DJ Khaled and....Kim Kardashian! The Hype Williams' video is a collaboration of DJ Khaled's I Wish You Could and Kanye's Too Cold.
Pay close attention to 5:12 into the video and you'll see a quick blip of Kim right when Yeezy makes a dig at her soon-to-be-ex-husband.
While the infamous line plays, I'll admit I fell in love with Kim around the same time she had fell in love with him," he raps, presumably referring to Kris. "Well, that's cool, baby girl, do you thing / Lucky I ain't have Jay drop him from the team.
Kim is seen cupcaking next to Kanye.
Coincidence or not?

Evelyn Lozada Files for Divorce from Chad Johnson

Timeinc.net

What a week for this couple!
First Evelyn Lozada and Chad Ochocinco Johnson get into an argument after Lozada supposedly found a receipt for a box of condoms, which leads to Johnson getting arrested for allegedly head-butting Lozada.
Then, Johnson gets cut from the Miami Dolphins.
The couple's pending VH1 reality show Ev & Ocho has been cancelled.
Now, TMZ is reporting Lozada has filed for divorce.

Did I mention the couple have only been married for six weeks?
In a recent statement from Lozada she says:

It is with great sadness and much trepidation that I release this statement addressing the domestic violence incident that happened this past Saturday. I am deeply disappointed that Chad has failed to take responsibility for his actions and made false accusations against me, it is my sincere hope that he seeks the help he needs to overcome his troubles. Domestic violence is not okay and hopefully my taking a stand will help encourage other women to break their silence as well. I’m grateful to my family, friends and fans for the outpouring of support during this difficult time.

Cosmo's Helen Gurley Brown Dies at 90

timeentertainment
Women all over the U.S. have lost an icon. The editor of our favorite guilty-pleasure and the woman who famously said, My own philosophy is if you're not having sex, you're finished. It separates the girls from the old people, has died.

NEW YORK (AP) -- Helen Gurley Brown, the longtime editor of Cosmopolitan magazine who invited millions of women to join the sexual revolution, has died. She was 90. Brown died Monday at a hospital in New York after a brief
hospitalization, Hearst CEO Frank A. Bennack, Jr. said in a statement. "Sex and the Single Girl," her grab-bag book of advice, opinion, and anecdote on why being single shouldn't mean being sexless, made a celebrity of the 40-year-old advertising copywriter in 1962. Three years later, she was hired by Hearst Magazines to turn around the languishing Cosmopolitan and it became her bully pulpit for the next 32 years.
She said at the outset that her aim was to tell a reader "how to get everything out of life -- the money, recognition, success, men, prestige, authority, dignity -- whatever she is looking at through the glass her nose is pressed against."
"It was a terrific magazine," she said, looking back when she surrendered the editorship of the U.S. edition in 1997. "I would want my legacy to be, `She created something that helped people.' My reader, I always felt, was someone who needed to come into her own."
Along the way she added to the language such terms as "Cosmogirl" -- hip, sexy, vivacious and smart -- and "mouseburger," which she coined first in describing herself as a plain and ordinary woman who must work relentlessly to make herself desirable and successful.

Celebrities like Lena Dunhan, Marlo Thomas and Ann Curry all tweeted their sadness over this loss for women everywhere.

We'll miss you Helen! Thanks for being such an icon!

Kim Kardashian is Kanye's "Perfect Bitch"

Bossip.com
Yeezy has debuted a new song and it's about Kim....again.

Perfect Bitch is a single off of Kanye's forthcoming album Cruel Summer and he confirms via twitter that the song is about him.
How romantic. I guess?

MTV. com says:
"This past weekend Kanye West hit PH-D night club in NYC and surprised the crowd by hooking up his laptop to the speakers and playing a few unheard tracks from the upcoming G.O.O.D. Music album Cruel Summer. One of them, titled Perfect Bitch, was speculated to be about his girlfriend Kim Kardashian, and Mr. West confirmed that today.
With his usual one sentence tweet, Kanye simply wrote, 'I wrote the song Perfect Bitch about Kim,' putting all doubt to rest. According to club goers, the song tells the tale of Kanye's search for the perfect woman, which has ended thanks to his relationship with Kim Kardashian."

I've avoided really delving into the Kim-Ye romance, because I didn't think it would last. Apparently I was wrong. Hello....they've been dating for 4 month....that's longer than 72 days!
These two are perfect for eachother. And that's all I'm going to divulge on that!

Serena Williams C-Walks on the Tennis Court

Coming straight outta Compton!
Serena Williams' showed her LA-based roots after winning her first singles gold medal at the 2012 Olympic Games in London. Sure, Serena isn't really a Crip but her victory dance after scoring the medal sparked controversy. The C-Walk aka Crip Walk is a dance developed by the L.A. street-gang, Crips.

On FoxSports.com:
And there was Serena — the tennis legend, the winner of 14 individual Grand Slams, the best player of her generation, the American girl being crowned at the All-England Club as the queen of tennis — Crip-Walking all over the most lily-white place in the world.
She didn’t do it on purpose. It was a moment of unbridled joy. She pumped her fist, jumped up and down, looked into the crowd, then did her ill-timed dance.
You couldn’t help but shake your head. It was as if Serena just couldn’t seem to avoid dipping
into waters of controversy even as she’d ascended to the top of her sport.

Neither Serena, nor Venus have never been shy about their lives back in Compton. They used to practice on tennis courts back home, which had potholes and sometimes a missing net. Both Williams' sisters say that Compton was a hard neighborhood growing up in and credit tennis for helping them get out of there.

It seems that Serena was just really excited about her victory and just couldn't contain herself, but maybe next time she should just to The Dougie.

Wisconsin Guruwara Shooting: My Personal Reflection

Photo: BostonGlobe.com

Sunday's shooting at the Oak Creek Guruwara in Wisconsin definitely hit home. As a Sikh myself, the idea that a man came into a place of worship and began shooting people is extremely disturbing. This comes at the heels of the movie theater in Aurora, CO.
It's so sad to know that some people have so much hate in their hearts that they feel the need to inflict pain on innocent people.
Words like domestice terrorism and hate crime have been thrown around describing the event. Reading countless articles on the shooting made me realize even more that EVERYONE needs to be educated on other religions and cultures. Since 9/11, Sikh men have been targetes because of their long-beards and turbans resembling the dress of Al- Qaeda members.
Sikh men wear turbans because it is customary in the Sikh religion to not cut your hair. Uncut hair is an ode to God because your hair was given to you by the Lord and not cutting it is a sign of respect. Turbans are worn to protect the hair of men and scarves or chunnis are worn by women to protect their's as well. To keep one's hair is a commitment to accept the body in the natural form in which it was born, and to get rid of vanity relating to outward appearance.
I'm not going to name the shooter in my blog posting because I don't want to glorify him. As the Huffington Post says, Murdering innocent Sikhs does not make you a patriot. I would think 10 years later after the September 11th attacks we, as Americans, would understand the difference between a terrorist or not. Even though Sikhs wear turbans and confuse them with Muslims...let's take a look at one fact...the men who flew those planes into the towers and the Pentagon were not wearing turbans anyway.
In 2012 we've seen the Trayvon Martin case, a Iraqi-American woman beaten to death in her CA home, the shooting in Aurora and now this in Oak Creek.
Come on, everyone. Let's love one another...if not...who else will?
