Hugh Hefner Dies at 91

http://schmoesknow.com

It's definitely an end of an era.
Playboy magazine founder, satin-pajama-enthusiast and  sexual revolution icon, Hugh Hefner, has died at the age of 91 years old .
The publication released a statement saying Hefner died at his home, the Playboy Mansion, surrounded by family and friends.
Playboy's first issue was published in 1953 when Hef was just 27 years old. The first issue of Playboy was financed with $600 of his own money and several thousand more in borrowed funds, including $1,000 from his mother. But his biggest asset was a nude calendar photograph of Marilyn Monroe. He had bought the rights for $500. That photo ended up on the cover of the first issue and launched the brand we all know, and whom many just "read for the articles".

Hefner leaves behind four children and wife, Crystal Harris.
Hefner will be buried  at the Westwood Village Memorial Park, where he bought the mausoleum drawer next to Monroe.

Hefner's stature in pop-culture was huge and launched the careers of Pamela Anderson, Jenny McCarthy, Carmen Electra, and Girls Next Door Bridget Marquardt, Kendra Wilkinson-Baskett and Holly Madison.
Some of these women, and celebrities featured in Playboy took to social media to express their condolences to the legend.

Goodbye #Hef Mr Hefner I have so many thoughts, I have no brain n right now to edit I am me because of you You taught me everything important about freedom and respect. Outside of my family You were the most important person in my life. You gave me my life... People tell me all the time That I was your favorite... I'm in such deep shock. But you were old, your back hurt you so much. Last time I saw you You were using a walker. You didn't want me to see. You couldn't hear. You had a piece of paper in your pocket you showed me - with my name Pamela with a heart around it. Now, I'm falling apart. This feeling is so crazy. It's raining in Paris now. I'm by the window. Everything anyone loves about me is because you understood me. Accepted me and encouraged me to be myself. Love like no one else. Live recklessly With unfiltered abandon. You said the magazine was about a girl like me. That I embody the spirit you fantasized about. I was the one. You said. I can hear you say - Be brave. There are no rules. Live your life I'm proud of you. There are no mistakes. And with men - Enjoy ... (Your wonderful laugh) You have the world by the tail You are a good girl And you are so loved - You are not crazy. You are wild and free Stay strong, Stay vulnerable. ... "It's movie time" You loved my boys ... You were always, always there for us. With your love Your crazy wisdom. I will miss your everything. Thank you for making the world a better place. A freeer and sexier place. You were a gentleman charming, elegant, chivalrous And so much fun. Goodbye Hef ... Your Pamela 💋

Rapper Prodigy of NYC Rap Duo Mobb Deep Dies

pmcvariety.com

New York rapper Prodigy, one half of the influential rap duo Mobb Deep, has died at 42 years old.
The cause of death has not yet been released, but the Queens rapper has been long suffering from sickle cell anemia.
Prodigy was in Las Vegas for a Mob Deep show.

According to CNN, Prodigy was born Albert Johnson, the rapper's family had a storied history.
His great-great-great-grandfather, William Jefferson White, founded Georgia's Morehouse College in the basement of his Baptist church.
His grandfather, Albert "Budd" Johnson, was a saxophonist and clarinetist for Billie Holiday, Duke Ellington, Dizzy Gillespie, Count Basie and Benny Goodman.
Johnson met fellow Queens, New York native Kejuan Muchita when they were both freshman at Manhattan's High School of Art and Design.
The pair bonded over their shared love of hip hop and formed Mobb Deep. Johnson took the moniker Prodigy, while Muchita chose the performance name Havoc.
They scored a record deal as teens and released the album "Juvenile Hell" in 1993.
The project didn't generate much buzz, but the duo found more success with their sophomore album "The Infamous."
With its gritty rhymes and contributions by the artists Nas and Raekwon, the album helped launch Mobb Deep to the top of the hardcore, hip hop ladder.

Mobb Deep was famously involved in the mid-90s East Coast/ West Coast beef. Tupac mentions them in Hit Em Up even addressing Prodigy's illness.
Rappers from all walks of life took to social media to express their condolences to the artist who paved the way for many.

Mexican-American Singer Jenni Rivera Dies in Plane Crash

Timeinc.com

Fans are in mourning over the death of Mexican-American singer, Jenni Rivera.
Born in the U.S., Rivera's story is similar to that of slain Tejano singer Selena, in the sense that she was looking to cross-over into American music before her untimely death.
Rivera was flying with her publicist, Arturo Rivera, her makeup artist, Jacob Yebale, and two friends, one named Mario Macias and another who was also identified as Gerardo, to the central Mexican city of Toluca after a Saturday night concert before thousands in the northern city of Monterrey. All were killed.

MTV.COM says:
"Rivera was born and raised in Long Beach, California, "La Diva de la Banda," as she was respectfully known, got her start in 1995 when she released her debut album, La Chacalosa, on Capitol/EMI. Later that year, she recorded Adios a Selena as a tribute to Selena. At the time of Rivera's death, she was filming season three of "I Love Jenni," her Spanish-language reality show on mun2, which also aired in America on the Style Network. And just last week, Rivera reportedly signed a deal with ABC to develop her own sitcom.
With her last album, 2011's Joyas Prestadas, La Gran Señora delivered an LP full of powerful and well-received ballads like "Basta Ya" ("Enough Is Enough"), but her star far surpassed the studio. Yes, Rivera sold an estimated 15 million LPs, but she just as easily transitioned from music to television with "I Love Jenni" and as a judge on "La Voz," the Mexican version of the popular singing competition show "The Voice."
According to her fans. Rivera sang of heartbreak, domestic violence and raising her children as a single mother. She was famously married to Esteban Loaiza, a former Major League Baseball pitcher who played for the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers. They divorced earlier this year."

Here is one of O'Neal's funniest bits on his "Elephant in the Room" about animal abuse. My sister showed me this a while back and I couldn't stop laughing.

R.I.P. Hip Hop Legend Heavy D

People.com
UPDATE:
TMZ's Harvey Levin tweeted that Heavy D just got back from shopping and took the stairs. A designer found him on the ground and cradled him until EMTs arrived. It's not confirmed if the rapper died of a heart attack.

TMZ reports legendary hip-hop artist, Heavy D, died today.
"Heavy D -- real name Dwight Arrington Myers -- was rushed to an L.A. hospital around noon today ... and was pronounced dead at the hospital at 1 PM. He was 44 years old. We've learned a 911 call was placed from Heavy's Beverly Hills home around 11:25 AM to report an unconscious male on the walkway.
When help arrived, we're told Heavy D was conscious and speaking -- and was transported to a nearby hospital. He died a short time later. Cops are investigating the death -- and so far, there are no obvious signs of foul play. Police are currently at the home."

Heavy D's last tweet on twitter reads: @heavyd: BE INSPIRED!
What a very fitting last tweet.

Such a sad day for the hip-hop community.
