When I was Taken Back to 2002: My Night with JA Rule and Ashanti

My Friday night was like no other, I went back in time.
I went back to a place where North Carolina blue sneakers were in fashion, cornrows were the preferred hairstyle of choice, one may or may not have worn a piece of white tape under their left eye and throwback jerseys were just coming on to the scene.

When my friend asked me if I wanted to see JA Rule and Ashanti when they come into town I was apprehensive, I haven't heard a song I liked from either one in almost 10 years. Sure, the tickets were $45 but did i want to waste the money on a good outfit on Murder Inc's two heavy hitters?

YES!

Even though it was 2016, it felt like I was back in high school.
Jeffrey Atkins and Ashanti Douglas performed in San Francisco's at the Warfield Theater Friday night for the Bay Area's leg of their Heavy Hitters tour and they actually surpassed my expectations.
They both looked great!

They even had a SnapChat Filter!
They performed their hits like Baby, Mesmerize, I'm Real, Holla Holla, Can I Get A, Rain on Me, Foolish, Put It On Me, etc.

The only thing I wasn't too keen on was the Great America 1997 music videos of the pair playing in the background. I don't know if Irv Gotti has control of their original music videos, but they should've been playing those instead.
Regardless, I was pleasantly surprised by the show and it was great for the nostalgia.
